Petr Cech Told to find a New Club (REPORT)

Jose Mourinho is reported to have decided on Thibaut Courtois for the number one job at Chelsea, with Petr Cech told to look for a move over the coming weeks.

Chelsea will tell long-time first-choice goalkeeper Petr Cech to find a new club before the end of the transfer window, claims Goal.com.

According to the report, Jose Mourinho has opted to make Thibaut Courtois his number one going forward, with his decision coming after the Belgian international was given the start for the side’s pre-season finale against Real Sociedad.

With the 32-year-old’s contract running until 2016, the club are reportedly keen to offload him this summer in order to recoup a more significant transfer fee of around £10 million, with the likes of Monaco, Paris Saint-Germain and even Real Madrid monitoring the situation.

Cech is said to be willing to remain at Stamford Bridge to fight for his place but his agent, Viktor Kolar, stated last month that he would contact Europe’s top clubs if his client did became available.

‘I would get in touch with [Andoni] Zubizarreta at Barcelona and people at Real Madrid,’ he said. ‘These are clubs we would consider if Chelsea wanted to get rid of Petr.

‘We would also consider Bayern Munich but they have [Manuel] Neuer there. Then there are leagues Petr would not go to – Serie A, for instance, because clubs in that league have problems.

‘Paris Saint-Germain have shown interest and we have also communicated with Monaco.’

Cech has been Chelsea’s undisputed first-choice since joining from Rennes in 2004 for £7 million, making 479 appearances in his 10 seasons in North London, while winning three Premier League titles, four FA Cups, three League Cups, the 2012 Champions League and the 2013 Europa League.

Courtois, meanwhile, was signed from Genk in 2011, before spending the past three campaigns on loan at Atletico Madrid, where, at 22, he has developed into one of the top shot-stoppers in Europe.

An undoubted club legend and still one of the top keepers in the game, the decision to put Cech on the market can’t have been a straightforward one, but his successor’s undoubted talent at least means that the future of the position would be in safe hands.
