When buying a car, the price on the sticker is not the only thing you have to consider. Buying a car is a big decision and there are a number of factors that can determine if you enjoy the investment or not. Inevitably, it will require service. How much will the model you’re buying cost you to repair?
The good news is we have compiled a list from the 2018 Vehicle Health Index. Based on 5.6 million vehicles in which the check-engine light went on in 2018, they determined the makes and models that cost the least to fix. Here is a list of the five cheapest cats to repair.
Mazda
The Japanese automaker sits at the top of the list as it had to me lowest average cost of repair related to the check engine sign costing about $250. If you happen to love convertibles, you are in more luck as the least expensive Mazda model to fix was the 2013 Mazda MX-5 Miata, with an average cost of $81.
Aside the low cost of repairs, Mazda is also known for its low fuel consumption.
KIA
This South Korean automaker’s have an average cost of repair that came to about $319.97. The KIA model that was the cheapest to fix was the 2016 KIA Soul, with a typical repair cost of $70.
Dodge
This American automaker ranks third on the list of the least expensive cars to repair at an average of $326.41. The 2017 Dodge Durango was the brand’s cheapest to repair at $144.
Hyundai
Hyundai dropped in the rankings from 2017, when the company occupied the top spot. For 2018, the South Korean automaker’s repair costs averaged $328.32. The cheapest mode from Hyundai? The 2017 Hyundai Tucson averaged just $66 to fix.
Chrysler
For Chryslers with engine trouble, the average repair cost in 2018 was $329.43. The mid-size 2017 Chrysler 200 was the American carmaker’s least expensive model to repair, with an average price of $204.
