The judges could not pick the winner between Gennady Golovkin and Saul Alvarez, as the megafight ended in a draw.

The superstars brought their A-game to Las Vegas, and the decision did not sit well with the crowd, who expected a Golovkin victory.

Byrd’s score of 118-110 in Alvarez’ favour, stunned the spectators and after 12 non-stop exciting rounds, Trella scored it 115-113 in favour of Golovkin and Moretti’s 114-114 confirmed the draw.

The decision means the boxers will meet again, with GGG retaining his IBF, WBA and WBC middleweight belts.

And when Canelo suggested he won seven or eight rounds, he was booed and it came as no surprise when the Mexican and the Kazakh called for a rematch.

The first and second rounds were basically warm up rounds, as both boxers tested each other’s resolve.

Golovkin controlled the third round, showing the pace and pressure he is known for and the fourth round saw him pin Canelo to the ring.

Canelo showed his mettle in the fifth round, but the sixth round saw Golovkin regain control and he pinned his challenger to the ropes on more than one occasion.

They swapped shots in the ninth and tenth round, with Canelo standing with Golovkin. They clinched for the first time in the tenth round.

Golovkin appeared to be landing more shots as they went into the penultimate round and Alvarez switched gears to stand toe-to-toe with the knockout specialist.

Both landed big rights just before the bell but with both showing they have solid chins and both feeling they were the winner, the blue touch paper fizzled out with the subjective scoring dampening an expected explosive end.
